Industry code dictates that four nails must be used for every shingle. At Top View Roofing, we use six nails per shingle. We also use real starter strips under the first row, rather than a row of shingles turned upside down. We use 30-pound felt paper, which is twice as strong as the more-common 15-pound felt paper that is widely used. We also use lead bootjacks instead of aluminum bootjacks for maximum durability and protection.
